for those of you who were in baler during the holy week and heard that my sister had an accident, yes it is true.

they were on their way to ermita hill when it happened. everything is now ok, according to them. she and i have been texting earlier which only proves that she is not in grave danger, thank goodness.

according to some, minutes after their accident, two other accidents happened at exactly the same spot. the one right after their's suffered severe injuries. minutes after, another accident happened and the driver died.

i still cannot get over the fact that i aced my ielts! well, not quite. i got 7.5 for writing.. i know i do not write well; but i was expecting that i would get a better score in writing than speaking. i am so wrong.

in the meantime, i am waiting for the results of my skills assessment. i am definitely keeping my fingers crossed for that.

my vacation is getting nearer as well. i cannot wait!!!

My mom & my aunt already received their visa - they are coming on May to visit me, yipee! Am so excited to see my Mom; and I envy her that she gets to visit Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane & Cairns on their visit this year!

And oh, Mela, a co-audiologist who works in Hamilton, NZ...she's coming to visit Oz during the Easter long weekend! Can't wait!

i love the strike class earlier. i would probably love the boxing class even more, however lou said they do not have enough equipments yet. spin class is still on the top of my list, and zumba places 3rd next to strike!

it seems i haven't been putting a lot of effort though - i still weigh the same, i eat a bit more (a looooot more actually, until my fiance reminded me that it won't do any good of course).

yesterday during lunch break, while i was on my way to buy a v-day card, a guy infront of k-mart stopped me in my tracks. he is a volunteer for amnesty international. he asked me if i know what is the #1 cause of death in asia - which i got correct. my excuse, i'm asian. he also told me that "x" out of "x" women in australia suffer domestic abuse.

with his accent (where he prounounces "R" as "oar" while asking for the spelling of my surname), i only understood 3/4 of what he said, not to mention that he speaks very fast.

by the end of our conversation, i have already pledged a monthly donation of $?? for amnesty international for 2years.

i do not regret paying that much (or that little) every month though. i guess that is the same view that i have for paying $?? for the deaf society.

3day pass

My housemate sent me a link which entitles me for a 3day pass to Fitness First. And because the classes at Globe is only from Monday to Thursday; I went last night and early this morning. I might come tomorrow as well, since I have a feeling that the 3day pass expires 3days after the first visit.

Its already 1:15PM, am bored, but I dont want time to just pass me by. Because that means I only have 1 1/2 days remaining of my weekend. Good thing Wednesday is Australia Day which means NO WORK!!

body aches... the gym has a new class schedule which now involves "core", "boxing" and "strike" among others. i haven't felt this sore before except last year when i joined the gym.

i was sooo tired from the 1hr strike class earlier, and wasn't intending to attend zumba until the zumba instructor came to the classroom just as the strike class was finishing. it was worth it though, but i wasn't able to jump and duck the way i normally use to..

i know, i never learn.

if i am in the philippines right now, i need not see a doctor to get antibiotics from the pharmacy. but since i am not, i sighed heavily before picking up the phone and making an appointment with a GP. it took courage to be able to tell the receptionist i want an appointment. not because i am afraid of doctors. but because i do not have medicare and the consult fee is $70.

i made the appointment during my lunchbreak - 1PM. i was 10mins late. the receptionist asked me to fill-out some forms. i paid the fee. then after 2mins of sitting at the waiting room, the doctor called me.

the consultation room is about the same size as my own consultation room at work. but the patient's chair - my chair - is positioned in such a way that i cannot see the doctor's computer screen. the doctor wasn't smiling. i feel awkward. i suddenly thought if my patients feel the same way when i escort them inside my room. i guess not. i hope not. because i smile at them from the time i call their name and usher them inside the room.

the doctor asked me what i do, and i awkwardly answered "i'm an audiologist". it's embarassing to have to see the doctor due to an ear infection caused by excessive use of cotton tips when i myself tell clients not to use cotton tips everyday!

it did not rain in the coast since i woke up this morning - i'm not sure how the weather in brisbane is though. people are evacuating. mary ann who lives in morayfield evacuated to logan. grace who lives in auchenflower "evacuated" to toowong (which is also on the list of suburbs on flood alert). melody and her family stayed in toowoomba, but they are safe.

the water is expected to rise further due to high tide.

flash reports + special tv coverage about the flood is heart-breaking. people lost their properties. people lost their pets. people lost people.

people still losing properties. people still losing pets. people still losing loved-ones.

too many posts of "haven't been able to blog for so long blah.. blah.. blah"..

too many months of not being able to put into writing what i have in mind..

internet can be so scary, and i have been avoiding blogger for sometime now just so i do NOT blog anything that i will regret after a while..

anyway, i'm back to cairns for a holiday (already transferred to gold coast since july - a good move when i consider things which are work-related). been busy for the past few days: catched a flight from brissie on the 24th, hopped houses on the 25th, off to ravenshoe for 3 days (where i had these dreaded insect bites again, arrrrgggghhh), and the list goes on..

it's been a very hot summer, as expected, but with lots of rain which started 2 wks before i flew here. and the rain continues. flooded towns in between here and brisbane. not enough food in the supermarket.

i haven't been hungry since i've been here, though.

i'm overfed.

my boyfriend reminded me the other day - stop being insecure.

i have been somewhat anxious when mingling with kids.. it comes to a point where i would just sit beside them and adore them quietly, unable to form a bond with them.

years ago, one of my nephew, who was only around 3 by that time, started to ask questions about things. that time i realized kids ask the hardest questions - questions i never knew how to answer then, and until now. questions where i cannot give direct answers to. i know i'm not good at expressing myself, im always at a loss for words, im always short of vocabulary. i never knew however, that i would find myself troubled everytime i am with a child.

when i was in toowoomba about two weeks ago, i told my friend to please teach me how to baby talk. she laughed then afterwards asked, 'are you serious?'. one of my biggest concern is not being able to understand their language. sure, kids talk in babbles, and each toddler has his own lingo - i want to understand each of 'em. from my experience, it upsets most kids whenever they feel you don't listen to them - and that is the main reason why i wanted to hear them out.

this however will not account for the panic i have when i am with pre-lingual tots. for a fact, i know some parents want to talk to their kids as if they are already adults, not wanting to speak to them in baby lingo. that is why i prefer to just stare at them admiringly.

the other day, my boyfriend reminded me to stop being insecure. this was after he rang me while babysitting his nephew. knowing i was on speakerphone, i kept quiet and was near to tears as he was asking me to talk to a 6-month old baby.

and so while i tell myself that this is not insecurity, he insists it is.

my youngest sister sent me a text message - it seems everybody is already having babies. i told her i don't have one yet - to which she replied "meron ka na ngang college!". she's the only 'baby' i'm not worried to speak in the language of the bubs.

still hibernating..

for some reason i lost the urge to ~~write~~ blog. been too lazy.. reading eats most of my time. and tv. and facebook. and day dreaming. so many things happened which unfortunately i wasn't able to blog about (i'm blogging for my own sake, sort of like a personal journal).

since i got back from vacay, all i can think about is the next one. hopefully in taiwan(?!) on december - i'm keeping my fingers crossed for that; then NZ - which will be years from now.

for now, i guess i just have to enjoy wherever work leads me. besides, i don't have a dslr yet. which reminds me, i have to get my cybershot fixed asap.

i do not know what happened, but ever since that bushfire in victoria, we can now again log-in to almost all sites previously blocked by the company's head office. our head office is in melbourne, victoria.

yesterday, i told both cso's in our clinic that we can already access multiply, blogspot, friendster and facebook. it is only facebook that they are familiar with.

my sister who spent christmas and new year here in cairns with me has had her clothes loose when she got here, and too tight when she left. for some reason, we have had 2 gallons of ice cream when she was here. no wonder my grandmother pointed out her size when she went back to the philippines.

one good thing about being on my own is that i'm learning to be independent. the bad thing: i cannot buy any meat that is 1/4 of a kilo in the supermarket.

i've already thrown-our some from my fridge, where moulds have already settled in, like that spaghetti and carbonara, and also the all-purpose cream. i also bought daing na pusit a month ago, which i also chucked in the bin last saturday because there were moulds despite it being preserved.

last friday, i made myself some veggie spring rolls and cannot-live-without-pansit. that will last me even after christmas, and my freezer is so full again, not to mention that there are also some beefsteak (~ 2 weeks old), and pork spring rolls (~ 1.5 months post-production). i should be thankful to my sister who will be coming pre-christmas, as i know she will eat everything and before i know it i'll be running out of foods. i already warned her that i am not planning on buying her a microwave oven so she just have to warm her foods via the electric stove in my unit.

she's asking for a blender though!

and she promised she'll make me cookies!!!

just some internet 'update'..

1. http://batangbaler.net is not filtered anymore in the clinic.

2. i already have a library card, and i can use the internet in the library thrice a week for 1 hour each visit. library hours are 10am-6pm (mon-fri) and 9am-12nn (sat).

3. i got my internet connection at home, although i'm thinking of using it only for chatting because it has a 1000mb data allowance for a month. that means if i exceed the allowance, i have to pay more for internet use.

the search for a unit is over.. i had the papers signed last, last week, but i can only move in two weeks later..

after my two-week stay at ramada encore hotel in dandenong, i was transferred to palm royale cairns hotel in manunda for another two weeks. all the while, i was looking for a cheap accomodation ($1** per week is the cheapest here) and thankfully, i had what i was looking for: a cheap unit, fully furnished, walking distance away from work. not to mention the compound looks flashy.. hehe.. also, too many people are offering me things i will be needing: utensils and stuffs.. the people here are really nice!! the only thing i need to pay separately would be electricity, because the water is covered with the rent. so, i'm planning on buying myself a really nice trash bin! yeah!! and i'm thinking of having a postpaid internet connection at home.

anyway, as i am waiting to move-in to the unit, i had to stay with my supervisor for a week, and with nena, a filipina, also for a week. my boyfriend texted me and told me "pity you".. oh well.. at least i'm already moving to my new unit on friday!! i'm so excited!!!

cairns rant

i've had that since day one, and it's getting worse by the minute.. the insects must love me too much to bite me at any chance they get!

i've tried dermaid - still didn't work..
the anti-histamine i brought with me from the philippines is doing no good as well; and i've taken half of the tablets already!

two months of not blogging and i'm here again..

two weeks post employment here at national hearing care, and we were already sent to different centres to start with work.. not bad though. two weeks of training, and we're in the real world, although we're only having 1-2 patients up to now..

during my first day here, knowing internet is free at the clinic, i've tried logging-in to friendster, multiply, blogspot - i can't.. so, i settled with yahoomails to keep in touch with those i left back home (even www.yahoo.com is blocked by the server)..

just yesterday, wednesday, the 10th of september (happy birthday sa lahat ng batch15 na september ang birthday!! september 9 si allan, 13 sina argel at uduy, 15 si elaine, 18 si toto, 30 si reggie.. sino kulang?), diane sent me an email that we can actually access friendster and multiply here in the clinic, even blogger/blogspot.. not batangbaler, though..

so here i am now, typing infront of the computer at lunchbreak.. sharing some things i don't think you wanna know about..

i'm actually thinking if i'll be getting a broadband connection when i already have a laptop (or desktop) at home.. kado had his pc at home connected to smart bro 1 day after i left the philippines, i might as well invest in a broadband connection. besides, this one here at the centre blocks instant messaging..

i know i shouldn't be writing in phrases.. i know i should be writing in complete sentences. i know i get to practice.. but my problem is not with writing, but with speaking.. (read: i have a bigger problem with speaking)

i know i've been waiting for this for so long.. but now that i have it, i am afraid.. i'm afraid to take one step forward because i'm afraid to fail.

i know it won't do me any good procrastinating. i have to start now, i have to start early.

i am about to start my review class on monday (tomorrow, actually). i haven't been able to spend more than 5 minutes reading the hand-outs the center gave me last week when i enrolled. it gives me the creeps just by looking at some of the tasks i needed to do on the exam.

there are 6 of us, but it seems i am the only one frightened..

i have been praying a lot about this. i really hope i can do this so as to push through with my plans, OUR plans.

Mga napagkasunduan:

Para sa 25th Foundation Anniversary Celebration. Kaunting info: ang celebration ay gaganapin ng February 6 - 9, 2008 sa ANSHS compound. Ang alumni ay inaanyayahang makisali sa tatlong araw na ito pero ang pinakamahalaga ay sa February 9 kung saan magkakaroon ng parade, motorcade, foundation program, fun games, at foundation night na ang alumni association ang mag-i-isponsor. Ito ang mga napagkasunduan sa meeting:
1. Ambagan (Batch 1 to 17) - 1,000.00 pesos per batch MINIMUM. Ito ay gagamitin sa mga incidental expenses kagaya ng mga balloons, disposable plates and cups and spoons and forks at kung anu pang kailanganin. Hindi na isinama ang batch 18-21 dahil mga istudyante pa lang itu sila. Sa mga graudates na bukas palad na nais tumulong maliban sa quota ng batch nila, ay malugod naming tatanggapin ang donation ninyu (kayu iyun mga nasa abroad na medyu ayus ang bigayan ng sweldu at walang maisip na pagkakagastusan). Mas magandang makatulung tayu sa iba pang expenses ng celebration para hindi masyadung malaki ang hinging ambag sa mga istudyante. Nung nakaraang taon ay sinagut natin ang bayad sa sound system for 3 days saka sa 2 tarp streamers. Sana ngayun din may maitulung tayu.

Ang napagkasunduang kulay ng alumni ay GRAY (pru kung pula na ang nabili nila ay di PULA tayu) dahil mayrun nang gagamit ng paborito nating black. Mayrun na ring pink. 180 pesos ang bawat tshirt. Mag inquire lang sa akin kung paanu makakaorder (09215413720). Pwede ring mag direct order sa science high.

3. Pagkatapus ng parada ay may motorcade. Ang ruta ay science-dipaculao-maria-san luis-baler. Kailangan natin ng mga sasakyan. Yung may mga sasakyan diyan ay ihanda na at the more the merrier. Titingnan daw ni Mr. Samano kung pwede yung truck nila para sa mga walang masakyan. Mag-oorder tayu ng lobong bilug at lobong haba at bibili ng mga ihahagis na giveaways. Dun natin kukunin sa 1,000 per batch na ambagan. Mas magandang maraming alumni na sumali ditu. Pilitin nating makasama lalu na kung nanditu lang kayu sa Aurora. Minsan lang itu isang taun at ang 25th anniversary ay minsan lang mangyayari kaya ipagpalinggu na naiyu ang inyung mga labahin.Yung mga nasa Maynila at wala ditu sa Aurora ay pwede ring makisali. Kaya daw ginawang Sabado ang celebration ay baka gusto ninyung umuwi. Kung di kayu makakadalu ay padaluhin na lang ninyu ang pera ninyu at parang nandito na rin kayu. Sa mga nakakabasa nitu, pakiusap lang po na mag-akit ng maraming alumni.

4. Pagkatapos ng motorcade ay may sama-samang tanghalian. Ang mga estudyante, magulang, guro, at alumni ay kanya kanyang dala ng foods. Ang gagawin natin dahil tamad tayu lahat maghanda ay mag-aambagan na lang, siguru habang nagpaparada at nagmomotorcade. Oks na ang 100 per person. Tapus ay oorder na lang tayu ng kanin at ulam sa ayus na restaurant kagaya ng Bays Inn o Gerry’s Place. Iyun ang iaambag natin sa kainan para sa lahat.

5. Sa gabi ay may, Foundation Night. Dating alumni night ang tawag nila pero sabi ko ay baguhin at de lang naman sa mga alumni ang celebration na itu. ang di nabagu ay yung tayo ang mag-i-sponsor. Ibig sabihin tayu ang bahala sa program at sa pag-kain. Wala pang napagkasunduang detalye sa gagawing program pero next week ay medyo lilinaw na itu. At dahil sagut natin ang pagkain para dito ay ganitu na lang ang napagkasunduan: Bawat batch ay magdadala ng foods and drinks. Itu ay de lang para sa batch ninyu. Para de tayu magkapare-parehung spaghetti at pansit ang dadalhin ay may-usap tayu sa text, sa comment ditu, at sa iba pang paraan. Ang batch nila Mako atRyan Soriao ay parang litson ang dadalhin. Yung gustung magdala ngisa pang litson at welcome laang. Kailangang medyu marangya itu at ditu nakasalalay ang reputasyon nating mga graduates. Kaya napagdesisyunang kanya-kanyang dala ay para maiwasan yung nangyari nung get-together nung November 2 na nagbigay lang ng ambag ang bawat batch nung mismung gabi kaya nuun lang naka-order ng fuds. Yung mga gagamiting plates, cups, spoons and forks ay bibilhin na lang. kukunin ang pambili dun sa ambagang 1000 per batch. So, malinaw po ba na maliban sa tig-isang libo bawat batch ay magdadala pa rin ng kanya-kanyang foods and drinks sa February 9 ng gabi? Nakikiusap ang tropangspider (batch 12) na magdala rin ng inuming nakalalasing para masaya.
Maliban sa Foundation Anniversary ay napag-usapan din ang Souvenir Program. Kung natatandaan ninyung mga dumalo nung November 2 get-together, nag-commit tayu na tutulung sa solicitation para sa advertisement sa program. Ang final na price ay itu: 6,000 pesos per page, 3,000 sa 1/2 page at 1,500 sa 1/4. May solicitation letter na akong ibinigay para sa mga umattend kahapun. Yung ibang batch ay ihahatid ku na lang sa inyo at ipopost ku ring yung softcopy dito para ma download ninyo. Itong solicitation na ito ay para sa mga businesses, professionals, groups o individuals na gustong maglagay ng greeting sa souvenir program. Tulung-tulung na lang po tayung mag-solicit sa mga kakilala natin para maging successful ito at para di tayu mapahiya sa ating ipinangakong tulong. Inaasahang makalikom tayu ng pera bagu mag February 6.

Mayruun pa - Bawat batch ay hinihing-an din ng donation kapalit ng isang page na greetings sa souvenir program. Lahat ay tig-iisang page. Walang 1/2 o 1/4. Itu ang mga presyu: Batches 1 - 8 Php 15,000.00, Batches 9 - 16 Php 10,000 at Batches 17 - 21 Php 6,000.00. Hindi po kailangang mai-raise ng bawat batch ang halagang itu bagu mag February 6 pero obra din. Ang napagkasunduang deadline ay katapusan ng March. Ang souvenir program ay April to June pa naman ilalabas. Binigay ku na rin ang letter sa mga umattend. Sa iba ay hintayin na lang ninyu.

Magkakaruun ng “meeting-get-together-reunion-party-concert” ang ilang alumni ng ANSHS. Ito ay gaganapin sa November 2, 2007 sa ANSHS sa Brgy. Buhangin (tama hindi Suklayin). Ito ay magsisimula ng alas-sais ng hapon hanggang matapus. Magkakaruun ng meeting upang pag-usapan ang kung anu-anu (25th year anniversary ng school, election, etc etc..), tapus may kainan at inuman at sayawan at kantahan at palaruan. May tutugtug ding banda, ang Blue Island at ang bagung banda ni Ataw, ang kumanta ng Kapatid ni Amy 2007.

Naghahanap pa kami ng mga coordinators bawat batch. May dalawang pamimilian ang bawat batch kung paanu sila mag aambag:
(1) mag-aambag sila ng P 1,500 o mas mataas para sa buong batch nila - ibabayad sa catering ng fuds,
(2) magdadala sila ng fuds and drinks na pandagdag sa handa.
Sa dalawang options na iyan, parehong hihingian pa ng dagdag na 20 pesos donation ang bawat dadalu para naman pambayad sa sound system at iba pang gastusin kagaya ngupa sa upuan at lamesa, production design etc.

it's already the end of august, one and a half month of not having the time to post something.. not much happened anyway.. majority of the 'important' events in my life are still yet to come.. still under construction..

our quest for a job ootc are still futile attempts.. the conference come november are shaping-up faster than i can imagine, except for the fact that diane, rein and i have not yet been formally given the permission to take a 1-week long leave.. will have to wait until the end of september, i assume..

on the lighter side, most mclaud07 people have already found a job: some are audio-related, some are not.. but the highlightsss: dra. miner just had her new audiology clinic in biñan; and dr. thanh vu will soon be opening his new audiology clinic in cabanatuan!

teng hates.. i love..

this week is unforgettable - truly something i won't forget even after so many years.. i felt i've done incredible things..

i made a friend feel special by giving so many negative comments on her boyfriend's ex-girlfriend.. but before you judge me on how cruel i was, try talking to mai first, you'll realize i was not so bad after all.. because some, usually most, gives nastier ones.. and by that i mean, really nasty!

i reassured one friend that she's better off with her ex-boyfriend! besides, she already has someone on her side - a lot nicer, and nicer, and nicer (and goes on).. i do hope i convinced her; anyway she herself firmly believes in the power of the 'spirit of the pencil'..

i helped someone by being there for him through sms.. now don't ask me for elaborations regarding this one.. i, myself, am still finding out the real story behind the sms exchanges.. it's hard to keep track of my inbox and sent items!

first semester was over.. we knew what's next: the text messages..

we were doing our written report for community work that day, october 24, when they finally decided to text us.. buti na lang all four of us received the first one.. i guess that was why we aced the written report due the following day!

When Misu slows down, then she becomes more creative than before. Since it takes time to be creative, she must slow down to do it. She then decides what projects she has time to finish. Thus she finishes at a slower pace than when she started the project. She has the best of two kinds of minds. One is the quick investigating mind. The other is the creative mind. When she is in the slower mode, she can be creative, remember longer and stack facts in a logical manner. She is more logical this way and can climb mental mountains with a much better grip.

Misu will be candid and direct when expressing her opinion. She will tell them what she thinks if they ask for it, whether they like it or not. So, if they don't really want her opinion, don't ask for it!

Misu will demand respect and will expect others to treat her with honor and dignity. Misu believes in her ideas and will expect other people to also respect them. She has a lot of pride.

Misu is moderately outgoing. Her emotions are stirred by sympathy and heart rendering stories. In fact, she can be kind, friendly, affectionate and considerate of others. She has the ability to put herself into the other person's shoes. Misu will be somewhat moody, with highs and lows. Sometimes she will be happy, the next day she might be sad. finally, i had the time to blog.. we had been going back and forth to batangas for the past two weeks, and not only were we running out of energy.. we're running out of financial resources as well!

next week was supposed to be the training.. we earlier planned that we would be training only one bhw from every barangay.. the mho however, asked us to train all their bhws, including 10 midwives.. that would mean we have to conduct our lecture among 133 persons!

hay naku, that's hard work to the 99th power!!

september month is busy month..

tomorrow, we'll be going to laguna for dra. miner's annual hearing screening which started yesterday (saturday) and will end on the 14th.. mai, my travel buddy and ojt partner, and i will be arriving tomorrow to help out.. geng and mayee will, hopefully, follow the next day..

on thursday, melody will follow, and together with ma'am shelly, the five of us (melody, ma'am shey, geng, mai and me) will go to batangas to do the first part of our much-awaited community work.. we hope to be back by friday, because project planning is due on saturday..

the following week will be just as busy as we are supposed to stay in batangas for a week for our project implementation..

when we were in baler last week, lorei and geng caught sight of a jellyfish when we were swimming, that is why we went home early..

mafe talks non-stop about gorgeous korean actors.. and i so love her for that..

she was one of the reasons why i am watching 3 korean series these past few days: love letter, great inheritance, and my girl..

it's fun changing cds from one series to the other.. it's my way of killing boredom, especially when the story involves long conversations, and the subtitles cannot be understood for some reason..

luckily, i have not yet mixed up the stories..

last july 23, mai, geng, lorei and i went to baler to do my thesis.. the following day, we were ready for some kid-loving experience..

by 8:30, we were already in the school, and performed our examination.. we handled around 100 patients in the morning alone, and then we had lunch..

after having lunch, we took pictures.. they insist we call the place 'floating restaurant', mostly because they wanted france to be envious.. haha..

in the afternoon, we also had the same number of patients, but we ended up early..

right after we were through with all the patients, we went to bay's inn to have merienda..

while waiting for the foods, we took some shots..

the shot with wacky faces, since we're tired smiling..

we stayed until 11 pm at bay's inn with toto and uduy..

the next day, we woke up late, and didn't catch the sunrise.. we planned to go to the museum but there wasn't enough time, so we headed to the beach instead..

and even though there was drizzle, they insisted we go swimming..

they wanted to go back - and stay for a month.. as if we have too many places to go to to keep us busy for 1 whole month!

thesis update: examination done
